NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
Hello, I am Duane A. Staples, a democratic candidate for Maryland's Prince George's County Council in District 6. Represented areas include the City of District Heights, Forestville, Kettering, Largo, Mitchellville and the unincorporated areas of Bowie, Capitol Heights and Upper Marlboro.
I am truly a product of Prince George’s County. I’ve lived in all of the District 6 areas at one point or another, I was educated in the Prince George’s County Public school system and I am a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!). After graduation I started a corporate career eventually landing in management and specializing in accounting, portfolio management and warehouse operations. I married my college sweetheart (a fellow Prince Georgian) and we have three wonderful, opinionated kind and rambunctious sons.
Like many of you, I am tired of Prince George's County playing second fiddle to our neighboring districts and allowing deals that make outside developers rich off of our dime. We need a seat at the table. We should expect nothing but the best from our schools, police, environmental protection, government agencies and health care facilities.
I've volunteered as a youth leader for the First Baptist Church of Glenarden and Zion, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Mentoring to Manhood and have served as an active Board member, Treasurer and now President of my homeowner association for the past 10 years.
Although I am proud of that service, I realized that it wasn’t enough. The only times I've seen politicians in my neighborhood is during election season – and they usually go silent the day after the election. Those frustrations and a sincere passion for serving the community are what led me to throw my hat in the ring. Our county can do better, and I want to be a part of the solution.
I am committed to making the future better for all residents of Prince George's County. As the son of a police officer and a Bowie State Professor, I am passionate about safety and believe that our students deserve top-notched educations and schools.
I believe in open procurement, strengthening and enhancing opportunities for local and minority businesses to create a thriving local economy, transparency in funding to non-profits, state-of-the-art medical facilities, safer and stronger communities, reusable energy and a clean environment.
Given my passion for music, I am known within the local artist community as a music producer and positive artist, I also have a sincere appreciate for the arts and recognize the power that it has to make a significant mark and impact change.
A vote for me is a vote for integrity, transparency, community inclusion and fresh ideas. A vote for me is a vote for excellence over the establishment.
